In the business world, an open-door policy is when any employee can walk in to any manager, CEO, or president’s office at any time, and share their concerns, ideas, and questions with them. But that isn’t at all what I am writing about in this blog. Instead, the question I ask in the title of this article is about giving the devil access into your life, any time he so chooses.

The Bible makes it clear that we as believers can give the devil an entrance into our lives. And those open doors can be the result of our lifestyle, our words, our attitudes, a more.

“Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].” Ephesians 4:27 AMP

At times what is happening in a person’s life can be directly connected to the fact that they have opened the door to the devil in their life. Now, in fairness, and before I continue, it is imperative that I state unequivocally, that not everything that the devil is doing in people’s lives is because of an open door. Many times, it is just satan attacking them, and firing his weapons against them. So, I don’t want you to turn away from this article with the mistaken idea that everything that is happening in your life is your fault, because I really doubt that that is the case.

However, no one can deny that there are those times when the enemy gained access into someone’s life because they left a door wide open for him to do so. And that is the point of this blog. Are you opening the door to the devil in any way for him to gain access to your life, is a question every believer must ask themselves.

Often at this time of the year, usually during the month of October, everywhere you turn people seem to glorify death and gore and devils and witches and evil and fear. And sadly, Christians do this too, although they foolishly claim it is all in fun. However, those who read their Bible realize that God doesn’t find it amusing at all, and in a number of places in the scripture, He warns His people to stay away from it.

6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. 7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 20:6-7 KJV

Earlier in this twentieth chapter of Leviticus, you find the Lord dealing with what His people were doing at the altar of a false god whose name was Molech. Molech was an idol, at whose altar even God’s people were sacrificing their children. And in a similar way, every year during Halloween I watch Christian families open the door to the devil, and invite him to torment their children, too.

These verses also refer to familiar spirits. Familiar spirits are demons that are familiar with someone, or their family, their past, etc. God’s people are to have nothing to do with those who operate with familiar spirits. In fact, TV shows, movies, video games, books, music and more, that promote such things as these are evil. And participating with them in any manner opens the door for the devil in your life, whether you realize it or not.

9 “When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. 10 “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 “For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you. 13 “You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 18:9-13 NASU

There are Christians who actually read their horoscope every morning before they begin their day. And although I am completely shocked by this, it is no less true. However, this is evil, and it will open the door of their lives up to evil spirits.

And again, you need to stay far away from movies, television programs, books, games, and any other similar things that promote this kind of garbage. It is time that Christians demonstrate some maturity and learn to “abstain from all appearance of evil,” (see 1 Thessalonians 5:22).

In fact, in the book of Acts (see Acts 19:13-20), when people gave their lives to Jesus they literally destroyed their books and symbols of the old life, removing it completely from their lives. Note: they didn’t drop it all off at Goodwill to pass it along to others. These people were magnifying the Holy Name of Jesus, and for them, there was no turning back. They were demonstrating a total renunciation of the works of darkness, and a total commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8 KJV

You cannot play on Satan’s playground and then expect him to obey your commands. It just won’t ever work that way. So make the decision today to not be someone that he can devour. And never again should you purposely open the door to the devil. Because where he is concerned, we do not have an open-door policy.
