What a wonderful gift Jesus is! In fact, God loves you so much that He gave you Jesus (see John 3:16). So, if you have never received Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life, then your life hasn’t even begun yet.
“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” 2 Corinthians 9:15 KJV
Jesus Christ is the greatest gift of all! That is why having Christmas without Christ is impossible. The whole concept is ridiculous!
Notice the word unspeakable in this verse above. The word unspeakable in this verse means, “Precious beyond words; too wonderful for words; indescribable in its value.” When you think of Jesus, Who He is and all that He is done for us, there are not enough words to describe Him.
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32 KJV
God is not holding anything back from us. And we could say it this way: underneath your Christmas tree there are many gifts given to us by the Lord that have your name on them. So, let’s open a few of those boxes today and take a look inside them to find all that Jesus has given us.
The first gift Jesus has provided to us is eternal life.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NASU
If you are not born again, you can be today, and you will receive the gift of eternal life. And Romans 10:9-10 tells you exactly how to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
And if you are born again, then eternal life is already within you. This means that the life of Almighty God is inside of you, working and moving within you. And the life of God inside of you will give you:
- • Wisdom beyond your years
- • Hope in hopeless situations
- • Direction when you seem rudderless
And much, much more.
Now to be clear, until you open the box with God’s gift of eternal life, then most of the other boxes aren’t available to you. But if you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, look at all the gifts you have with your name of them.
Next is a gift box containing the baptism of the Holy Spirit (see John 14:16-17; Acts 2:1-4 among others). When we become filled with the Holy Spirit our life increases super-abundantly. We can then pray in unknown tongues the perfect will of God. The Holy Spirit also leads us and guides us and shows us things to come (see John 16:13). There is just so much that you are missing out on if you have never opened this gift.
Once you are born again and baptized in the Holy Spirit, there are more gifts available. Specifically, they are the Gifts of the Spirit which can be further discovered by reading 1 Corinthians chapter twelve.
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)” Romans 5:17 KJV
Here is another important gift we must open – the gift of righteousness.
The gift of righteousness allows us to have right standing with God. And it also allows us to receive from Him everything He has for us, without fear or condemnation or unworthiness.
Then of course there is the gift of redemption.
“13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13-14 KJV
As you study the Bible you come to find that you have been redeemed from:
- • Spiritual death
- • Sickness and disease
- • Poverty and Lack
And when you think about how deeply your life is impacted because of our great redemption provided for us by Jesus Christ, it is a breathtaking gift indeed.
In addition to these gifts, Jesus has given us the Bible, which is filled with His great and precious promises (see 2 Peter 1:4). And He has also given us the gift of a pastor in our lives (see Ephesians 4:11-14). And your pastor was given to you to teach you the Bible, so that your life can be stable, and not be tossed back and forth with every wind of doctrine and deceptive teaching in the last days.
Yes, there are plenty of gifts our God has provided to us. And they have your name on them. So open them up today and enjoy them to the full!
